THE The management of Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has suspended four students for one semester for assaulting a fellow 300-year student, Victor Tobin.

According to a statement today by Acting Chancellor IB Harry, the decision was taken during a meeting yesterday.

The following students are affected by suspension: Monsi Baridukaka Nwaaelibabari (Mechanical Engineering), Victor Chibuike Daniel (Animal Science), Ezems Ikechukwu Goodluck (Electrical Engineering) and Wilson Jacob Ree-Ugani (Marine Engineering).

These students, members of the campus security group Man O’ War, are said to have attacked sociology student Victor Tobin in Hostel F on the university campus on June 12, 2024.

The university considered the students’ behavior to be a violation of the rules and therefore suspended them.

The Vice Chancellor urged the student body to maintain peace and follow all the rules and regulations of the university.

Amidst all this, students protested the treatment of their colleague by Man O’ War officials and gathered outside Man O’ War’s office to demand explanations and call for the disbandment of the campus security group.

The incident reportedly began when Tobin walked near the Man O’ War office, which led to a violent response from members.

Despite Tobin’s questions about his offense, he was allegedly attacked, resulting in injuries under his right eye.

The news spread quickly, sparking protests against alleged abuse by Man O’ War staff on campus.

When asked for comment on possible arrests in connection with the incident, Rivers State Police Command Press Secretary Grace Iringe-Koko stated that the incident had not been reported to the police, suggesting that the university was handling the matter internally.
