According to police, a Fremont CVS security guard was shot and killed during an altercation

FREMONT, California – A security guard at a drugstore in Fremont was shot dead in an altercation on Thursday evening.

Police received reports of a shooting at a store in the Fremont Hub shopping center around 11 p.m.

Witnesses reported that the security guard and another person were arguing when violence occurred. The security guard was shot and the other person suffered multiple stab wounds.

Officers attempted to save the security guard’s life, but the guard’s death was pronounced at the scene.

The other person was taken to a local hospital and his name was not released.

People came to the CVS store all day Friday. Some even left flowers for the security guard, whose identity is not publicly known.

“I have no way of reaching the family or anything, but it just felt like a good thing,” said Fremont resident Jason Frederick.

Dana Thomas left flowers and said she works as security at a nearby store.

“I work here in the hub at Michael’s, so security is a big issue. Thefts happen all the time, but as employees we know we can’t physically do anything about it,” Thomas said.

CVS was closed on Friday. A sign was posted at the store telling customers where they could pick up their medications.

CVS released this statement:

“We are working with police to investigate an incident that occurred last night at our Fremont Hub store. We cannot confirm any details at this time. The store is temporarily closed, but nearby CVS stores continue to serve our customers and patients.”
