First weather warning: Extreme heat expected this week

ROCHESTER, NY — The big weather headline for us this week will be the big summer heat expected starting Monday, but before that, we can enjoy Father’s Day weekend.

This Saturday will be a beautiful day as highs will be around 21 degrees and we will have plenty of sunshine as the high pressure system dictates our weather. Enjoy the cool weather on Saturday before it gets much hotter this week. The cool and pleasant weather will continue through Saturday night as lows will drop to just under 10 degrees under clear skies. This will set the stage for a great Father’s Day on Sunday as we continue to have plenty of sunshine. Father’s Day will be a little warmer as highs will reach just under 27 degrees on Sunday.

The heat wave doesn’t begin until Monday, when our afternoon highs reach 90 degrees. There’s a chance of a shower or storm early Monday morning, but it will become dry and partly cloudy in the afternoon. The more disruptive summer heat arrives on Tuesday, when highs reach the mid-90s. As such, the First Alert Weather Team has issued a yellow warning for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Afternoon temperatures will be above 35 degrees on both days and heat indices will likely be above 38 degrees, making it a little difficult to be outside on both afternoons. There is a chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm on Tuesday as heat and humidity increase. There will still be a few showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon, but most of these days will remain dry.

Highs around 35 degrees Celsius will continue this week through Friday, but towards the end of the week a cold front will approach and bring us relief from the intense heat and some more rain showers and thunderstorms through next weekend.
