London Drugs apologizes after cyber attack

After the company’s 79 stores were forced to close due to a cybersecurity incident, the president of London Drugs apologized to customers on Wednesday.

Clint Mahlman, president and COO of London Drugs, reiterated that the company’s customer data was not compromised.

Mahlman added that the company is committed to its “robust contingency plans,” which provide for the immediate shutdown of all systems in the event of a security breach.

“As soon as we became aware of suspicious activity in our environment, we immediately engaged third-party cybersecurity specialists from across North America to assist in containing, containing and conducting a forensic investigation. This resulted in an immediate company-wide shutdown of operations.”

Mahlman said specialists found no evidence of a breach of its customer databases, including health data or LD Extras members.

“If we find evidence that customer data has been affected, we will inform our customers and data protection officers in accordance with data protection laws,” Mahlman said.

In response to the cybersecurity incident, the retail chain closed all locations in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba on April 28.

London Drugs branches slowly began to come back online on May 2nd as phone lines returned to service. They were taken offline “as a necessary part of the internal investigation”.

All Drug retail locations in London were open for business on Wednesday.
