Houston Food Bank responds to disaster

From storms to the daily hunger emergency, the Houston Food Bank is always ready to provide families in our community with the safety net they need. Thanks to the dedication of volunteers, corporate donors and staff, the organization was able to provide assistance to those affected by recent storms and flooding.

As of Tuesday, May 7, the Houston Food Bank has provided the following assistance to those affected by recent storms and flooding:

  • 78 pallets of water
  • 71 pallets of emergency/disaster boxes
  • 22 pallets of products and snacks

Since the onset of the recent storms, the Houston Food Bank has been in communication with community partners and emergency management offices (OEMs) in the following counties to stay informed of needs and impact: Montgomery, Walker, San Jacinto, Liberty, Chambers. and Trinity.

The Houston Food Bank will need long-term support for its recovery assistance. The public can help in two main ways:

Volunteer

One of the things the Houston Food Bank needs most is volunteers. Helping hands are needed to sort and package food for distribution to the community. You can come alone or in a group – volunteering is ideal for group networking, team building for businesses, for families, etc.

Make a donation

For those who cannot give their time, donations are always appreciated. For every dollar you donate to the food bank, you provide three meals to the community.

A Text to Give number is specifically for funds to help with flood relief. Your donation will help provide food, water and other needed supplies. Once disaster needs are met, any remaining funds will be used to provide food to people facing hunger in Southeast Texas.
