Buffalo man faces murder charge in fatal May 7 shooting

Buffalo, New York (WBEN) – A Buffalo man faces a murder charge after the fatal shooting of another man at Del Denby’s Tavern on Hertel Avenue last month.

William Quinones, 27, was arraigned Monday morning before State Supreme Court Justice M. Willam Boller on an indictment charging him with one count of murder in the second degree (class “AI” felony) and one count of criminal possession of a weapon. in the second degree (class “C” misdemeanor).

It is alleged that on Tuesday, May 7 at approximately 1:15 a.m. ET, Buffalo Police responded to the tavern located at 1553 Hertel Avenue following a report that a man had been shot. The victim, Madjid Elbert, 46, was pronounced dead at Erie County Medical Center. The defendant is accused of intentionally shooting the victim, causing his death.

Quinones is scheduled to return to court on Friday, July 12 at 9:30 a.m. ET before State Supreme Court Justice Paul Wojtaszek for a pretrial conference. He remains held without bail.

If convicted of the highest charge, Quinones faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
