GapBuster Announces Third Party Data Breach Following Cybersecurity Incident at Nectar Desk | Console and Associates, PC

On June 2, 2024, Gapbuster Worldwide Pty Ltd, also known as Sonata GBW (“GBW”), filed a notice with the Maine Attorney General after discovering that a data breach had occurred at Nectar Desk, a provider used by GBW. In this notice, GapBuster explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ confidential information, including their names, email addresses, and phone numbers. After completing its investigation, GBW began sending data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

What caused the data theft at GapBuster/Nectar Desk?

The GBW/Nectar Desk data breach was only recently announced and more information is expected in the near future. However, GBW’s filings with the Maine Attorney General provide some important information about what led to the data breach. According to this source, Nectar Desk is a third-party vendor used by GapBuster. Apparently, Nectar Desk provides cloud-based call center solutions for companies like GBW.

On May 30, 2024, Nectar Desk experienced a data breach. GBW then contacted Nectar Desk to inform the company of the incident. Nectar Desk immediately contained the incident. GBW also asked Nectar Desk to track all download activity to ensure that any confidential information that was exposed was not further disseminated.

After GBW learned that sensitive consumer data was accessible to unauthorized parties, the company reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were affected. While the compromised information varies by individual, it may include your name, email address, and phone number.
