Police are investigating after a local woman lost a $1,200 Social Security check to fraud

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) – State Police in DuBois have launched an investigation after a local woman fell victim to Social Security fraud.

According to PSP DuBois, officers responded to a residence in Bloom Township, Clearfield County on Saturday, May 4, for a report of fraud.

According to police, the victim received a call in April from an unknown woman claiming to be from the Social Security Administration.

The victim – a 63-year-old Grampian woman – provided her social security information to the individual upon request.

On Friday, May 3, the victim discovered that she had not received her Social Security check. It turned out that the Social Security check was forwarded to an unknown address in Washington DC, according to police.

The check was worth $1,225.00, police said.

This investigation is ongoing.
