“If I hadn’t done that, it would have led to an amputation”: Pant recalls the treatment of his dislocated leg after a car accident

Rishabh Pant’s fans and family were left devastated when he survived a horrific car accident in December 2022. The wicketkeeper-batter was on his way to his home in Uttarakhand to surprise his mother on New Year’s Eve. However, halfway there, he dozed off and lost control of the car, which hit a road barrier and caught fire.

Pant was lucky to be rescued from the scene and taken to a nearby hospital before being flown by helicopter to Mumbai for further treatment. His condition was so serious that doctors predicted a recovery of two to three years. But his willpower and desire to play for India again enabled him to return after 14 months.

Speaking to India TV in the famous talk show ‘Aap Ki Adalat‘, Pant recalled his miraculous recovery from numerous injuries.

“So the doctor came to me and said, ‘Rishabh, you have to perform three miracles, two of which you have already performed.’ I had no idea about my life then (he joked), so I listened to him carefully. He said, ‘First of all, you are alive after such a gruesome accident,'” Pant said.

“My right leg bent 90 degrees in the opposite direction. I don’t know how my instinct worked. I asked a man who was there to hold it and I twisted it back to the original position. The doctor said, ‘Secondly, your leg. If you hadn’t done it, it would have resulted in amputation.'”

“The third miracle, he said, is that the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments will not require surgery if they heal on their own. None of the ligaments in my knees were there anymore, but I assured the doctor that I would get through this too. Finally, it happened,” Pant added.

“It was nothing short of a miracle that the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments healed by themselves. According to the doctors, this only happens in a few hundred thousand cases. I believe God was merciful,” he added.
