Highway 34 closed due to accident for OPD investigation

An accident in Ottumwa on Saturday night prompted police to close Highway 34 for investigations.

Sergeant Steve Kovacs of the Ottumwa Police Department told Ottumwa Radio News that dispatch received a report of a crash on Highway 34 eastbound near Vine Street at 7:55 p.m.

Kovacs says the accident involved a one-person motorcyclist. The name and status of the motorcyclist were not disclosed.

The accident remains under investigation. Police have closed Highway 34 from Church Street to the roundabout while authorities investigate the scene. Kovacs says the public should expect the closed section to reopen around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
