Matlacha community collects donations for woman injured in boating accident

A fundraiser will be held on Saturday, June 8, for Nichole Hall, the woman who lost her leg in a terrible boating accident in April. Friends of Nichole Hall said she is still in the hospital. As she works to recover, restaurants across the island are holding fundraisers where the community comes together and supports her. “She’s a very good friend of ours and would do it for anyone. She’s still in the hospital, but she’s already planning how she’s going to help other people,” said Mindy Stone, one of Nichole’s friends who was one of the first to start preparing for the event. Many items will be auctioned off, with all proceeds going directly to Nichole. “We do 50/50 raffles, we also have a lot of gift baskets with things that everyone has donated from all over the island,” Stone said. The most touching item being auctioned off is a mailbox. “It was auctioned off after Butch Gay’s accident, and the gentleman and his wife actually donated it back to be auctioned off again for Nichole,” Stone said. Miceli’s, Street Eatz and Froggy’s all host bands, raffles and donate 10% of their profits to Nichole. Blue Dog Bar & Grill also donates 10%. The latest event is at Froggy’s, with live music until midnight.
