One person dies after bicycle-truck accident in the city center

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A cyclist was killed after an accident downtown Saturday morning.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, a 61-year-old bicyclist was riding south on Fremont Street along the east curb around 7 a.m. and abruptly turned west, north of a marked crosswalk.

A Ford F150 had just turned right and diverted westbound East Sahara Avenue onto northbound Fremont Street.

The cyclist struck the right front of the Ford and fell to the ground. He was taken to Sunrise Hospital’s trauma unit for treatment and despite life-saving efforts, the cyclist was pronounced dead by medical staff.

The driver of the Ford remained at the scene, was unimpaired, and cooperated with investigators. The collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Accident Investigation Division.

The cyclist’s death is the 75th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction in 2024.
