A 56-year-old woman jumped out of a window in her house after the burglar broke it, police said. She then got into a verbal and physical altercation with the man.

The resident’s pit bull then came to her aid, police said.

The dog underwent surgery for his injuries, police said.

The shooter fled before police arrived. Investigators released only a vague description of him on Friday afternoon.
