A woman in Germany has been accused of killing a look-alike she found on Instagram in order to fake her own death.

The suspect, identified as Shahraban K, allegedly stabbed beauty blogger Khadidja O more than 50 times, completely disfiguring her face, after luring her to a meeting in the Bavarian city of Ingolstadt last August.

The prosecution believes that Shahraban K wanted to run away from trouble at home. “According to the investigation, it can be assumed that she wanted to go into hiding due to internal family disputes and fake her own death,” Veronika Grieser from the Ingolstadt public prosecutor’s office told the Deutsche Zeitung Picture.

Shahraban K, who lived in Munich, is said to have set up fake Instagram accounts and tried to arrange meetings with women who looked like her. She eventually found Khadidja O, a 23-year-old Albanian citizen who lived about 100 miles away, police said.

Shahraban K and Sheqir K, her 24-year-old Kosovar boyfriend, allegedly made the victim an offer for beauty products and met her in Ingolstadt. They picked her up and drove to a forest outside the city, where they stabbed her more than 50 times, according to prosecutors.

Shahraban K reportedly told her family that she was going to Ingolstadt to meet her ex-husband. After she did not return, her parents traveled to the city to look for her and found her Mercedes on August 16 near the Danube, near Sheqir K’s apartment.

In the back seat they saw the body of a dark-haired young woman who had been brutally murdered and believed it to be their daughter.

After an autopsy and DNA tests, it was determined that the body was indeed Khadidja O, police said. Subsequently, Shahraban K and Sheqir K were arrested.

Mr Aichele said the case had tested investigators. “We don’t have a case like this every day – especially not when it involves such a spectacular turn of events. The day we found the body, we didn’t expect it to turn out like this.”
