Lawyer for former Hilton principal convicted of sexually abusing students argues sleeping juror compromised trial

ROCHESTER, NY — News10NBC spoke with Kirk Ashton’s defense attorney Brian Shiffrin, who confirmed he presented oral arguments for Ashton’s appeal on Wednesday.

Ashton is the former principal of the Hilton Central School District who was convicted of sexually abusing two dozen students over a period of years.

Shiffrin said a juror fell asleep during the reading of testimony from the 2022 trial. The appeal was originally filed in December 2023.

Ashton is currently serving a 63-year prison sentence.
