Peel Police arrest 16 people and seize 369 stolen vehicles during auto theft investigation

Police in Peel Region say they have arrested 16 people and seized 369 stolen vehicles as part of an investigation into car theft.

According to their own statements, the police have so far filed a total of 322 charges and issued arrest warrants against ten other people.

They say the seven-month investigation, dubbed “Project Odyssey,” resulted in 255 vehicles being seized in Peel Region and 114 vehicles at the Port of Montreal, where the cars were destined for export.

According to police, a Peel-based company helped transport stolen vehicles from a trucking yard in Brampton, Ontario.

According to police, more than 8,300 vehicle thefts were reported in Peel Region last year, the highest number of car thefts per capita in Ontario.
