A nearby educational facility and a high-rise building were also damaged in the attack.

The Kharkiv Region Prosecutor’s Office published photos of the consequences on its Telegram channel.

“A large number of people are missing. This is pure terrorism,” Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov wrote on Telegram, translated into English by Google.

More than 30 vehicles were also damaged in the explosion in Ukraine’s second largest city.

“This attack on Kharkiv is another expression of Russian madness, there is simply no other way to express it,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video message posted on his official Telegram account.

“Only madmen like Putin are capable of killing and terrorizing people in such a heinous way. We already know that there are injured and dead. My condolences go out to the families and friends. All those affected will get the help they need.”

The attack came just two days after a Russian missile strike on Kharkiv killed at least seven people and injured more than a dozen others.

At least eleven people were killed in Russian missile attacks in Kharkiv last weekend.
