Election violence: Chevireddy denies involvement in attack on TDP candidate Pulivarthi Nani’s car in Tirupati

Chandragiri MP Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy has denied any role in the attack on TDP candidate Pulivarthi Nani’s car on the SPMVV campus the day after the elections.

However, addressing the media on Saturday, Mr. Bhaskar Reddy regretted the attack by some of his party workers on the car in which the TDP candidate was on his way to inspect the strong room.

Recalling the incident in Kuchuvaripalle on election day in which the car of his son and YSRCP MP candidate Chevireddy Mohith Reddy was set ablaze in full view, he said the incident at the SPMVV campus the following day was merely a retaliatory attack.

“The attack on Mr. Nani’s car on the SPMVV campus was in response to the arson of Mr. Mohith’s car. It was supposed to be a car-for-car revenge story, but the TDP workers have blown it up and made it seem as if I had provoked and carried out the violent attacks on Mr. Nani. While I condemn the attack on Mr. Nani, we did not start it,” he clarified.

Mr. Bhaskar Reddy also stated that he never believed in violence and recalled that he had never incited violence in his constituency in the last five years.

“I have held a position of responsibility and people also know how close I am to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Despite wielding power, I have never harmed a single TDP sympathiser because I do not believe in the ideology of violence,” he said.

‘A drama’

The YSRCP MP also wondered how Mr Nani could get oxygen and avail highly specialised treatment at SVIMS after his leg injury, terming it a “drama”.

He also presented the injuries sustained by his party’s workers in the clashes on election day and the day after.
