Macomb County man charged in 2022 mass shooting that left three people dead and two injured

DETROIT – A 32-year-old Macomb County man is charged with nearly two dozen felonies in connection with an August 2022 shooting that left three people dead and two others injured.

Authorities say Jony Saad Alatto fired multiple shots during an armed robbery at a Detroit home near the intersection of Saratoga and Gratiot avenues. 76-year-old John Coffie Jr., 55-year-old Alphonso Henry and 41-year-old Morriss Campbell Jr. were killed in the shooting. Campbell was found dead by police, while Coffie and Henry died after being taken to the hospital. A 55-year-old woman and a 33-year-old woman who were also shot survived their injuries.

On Friday, May 24, Alatto was charged with three counts of murder, two counts of assault with intent to murder, five counts of armed robbery, one count of illegal possession of a firearm and 11 counts of illegal possession of a firearm. He was released on bail and remanded in custody.

Alatto is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on June 14. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
