Hit-and-run driver kills man in Norristown, police say – NBC10 Philadelphia

Police are searching for a driver who allegedly struck and killed a man in Norristown before fleeing the scene of the accident.

On Sunday, May 19, Brian Clark, 57, of Norristown, was struck by a vehicle in the 300 block of West Main Street at approximately 10:45 p.m. Police arrived at the scene and found Clark suffering from numerous injuries and in cardiac arrest. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Norristown police and Montgomery County investigators obtained surveillance video showing a dark-colored SUV with a non-functioning headlight and a damaged windshield, consistent with a collision with a pedestrian, investigators said. On Monday, May 20, Norristown Police spotted a black Hyundai Santa Fe on East Wood Street.

The vehicle was covered with a tarp to cover the damage to the left front end and windshield, investigators said. Police also found human hair in the damaged windshield. Investigators also found surveillance video that showed two men leaving the damaged Santa Fe and returning to cover the vehicle with a sheet, investigators said.

Investigators found the vehicle’s passenger and identified the driver as 26-year-old Jean Carlos Emeraldas Cruz of Norristown. Investigators said Cruz was driving the Santa Fe eastbound on Main Street on May 19 when he struck Clark and then drove at a high rate of speed down Main Street before turning onto Markley Street.

Cruz and his passenger then returned to the scene of the accident on foot and noticed investigators there, police said. Cruz then fled the scene of the accident, investigators said.

An arrest warrant was issued for Cruz on May 23. He is described as a man who is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs approximately 165 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
