Teen arrested and accused of firing gun near Rooster Days Festival in Broken Arrow

Broken Arrow police say a teenager is in custody after he fired a gun near the Rooster Days Festival Thursday night.

According to police, it all started with a group of teenagers who were at Rooster Days and then made their way to the Carlisle Apartments, located one street to the east.

Officers said they believe the teens got into a fight and one of them fired shots into the air.

No one was injured, but people at the festival could hear the shots and officers were called into action, police said.

Police said they were able to take the teenager who fired the shots into custody and confiscate the weapon used.

Captain Josh McCoy said in his 12 years with Broken Arrow, he has never experienced anything like this at Rooster Days.

He asks parents to know what their children are planning to do if they plan to attend the festival this weekend.

“Although this is a very unfortunate event for us, we ask parents to be aware of what their children are doing this weekend if they wish to attend. Know who they spend time with. Stay in touch with them,” Captain McCoy said.

There will continue to be a heavy police presence at the festival and everything will go ahead as planned, police said.
