Kansas courts identify 150,000 potential victims of a cybersecurity incident

The Kansas Office of Judicial Administration said Monday that it has identified about 150,000 people whose personal information may have been accessed during a “cybersecurity incident” in October that left the state’s information system offline for weeks.

While it was initially believed that anyone who had ever interacted with the courts in Kansas could have been affected, cybersecurity analysts conducted a comprehensive review on April 23 and found that the accessed files could affect approximately 150,000 people. Some of the personal information came from Kansas Court of Appeals trial documents, applications to the Kansas Bar Association or other firm records, court administrators said in a news release.
