Joe Biden drops brutal Mother’s Day ad attacking Donald Trump

President Joe Biden’s campaign released a brutal Mother’s Day ad Sunday attacking Donald Trump’s past and proposing actions regarding mothers and women.

The presidential election is still six months away, and Biden has stepped up his insults against his political rival Trump, who has relentlessly attacked Biden since his 2020 campaign. With Biden as the Democratic incumbent and Trump as the Republican Party’s presumptive presidential nominee, November looks like a heated rematch between the two. One voting bloc the Biden campaign is focusing on is women who pursue abortion bans that states passed after repealing abortion bans Roe v. Wade from the Supreme Court in 2022.

On Sunday, Biden’s campaign released an ad that began quietly with scenes of mothers with their children and had the words “Happy Mother’s Day” written at the bottom.

Then the screen goes black and only the words: “But not from Donald Trump.”

Next, a clip was played of Trump talking about his administration’s policy of separating migrant families: “If you tell a family, if you come, we’re going to separate you, then they won’t come.” Then a video of a family was shown screams as she is forcibly separated.

Under Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy, thousands of migrant children were separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border from 2017 to 2018.

Sunday’s ad then focused on Trump’s policies on women’s reproductive rights, with words written on the screen telling voters: “This is how Trump treats mothers.”

Part of Trump’s interview with Time Last month he was highlighted in The Women magazine, which asked: “Do you think states should monitor women’s pregnancies so they can know whether they have had an abortion after the ban?”

The former president replied: “I think they could do that. Here too you have to talk to the individual states.”

In another clip, Trump was asked, “Do you believe in punishment for abortion?” Yes or no, as a school principal?” The former president then replied: “There must be some form of punishment” for the woman.

It was also mentioned that Trump spoke of playing a crucial role in overturning the Supreme Court Roe v. Wade, by stripping women of the right to abortion and leaving the decision to the states. Trump appointed three justices to the court during his term – Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett and Neil Gorsuch – giving the court the conservative majority needed to overturn the historic case.

The ad ended on a black screen with the words: “Do the mothers in your life a favor. Stop Trump.”

In response to the ad, Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said Newsweek via email on Sunday: “What a sad, miserable, cowardly existence Crooked Joe Biden and his campaign must have to make such a disgusting advertisement on such a joyful day. Their lives are obviously full of anger, hatred and resentment because they are clearly suffering.” President Trump continues to live rent-free in their pea-sized brains, even on Mother’s Day.

When reached for a comment by NewsweekBiden’s campaign was referring to the press release sent out along with the new ad. In the press release, Biden-Harris 2024 senior spokesperson Lauren Hitt said, “There is much at stake in this election for all Americans, but especially for mothers across our country who will suffer from a second Trump term.”

“Under Trump, the government will be allowed to monitor their pregnancies and tear their families apart. Meanwhile, President Biden is fighting to reinstate his historic expanded child tax credit to give families a little more breathing room and ensure paid leave for all Americans.” “Families depend on mothers – and mothers deserve a president they depend on can rely on someone who will protect their rights, work to reduce their costs and fight for them.”

What are Trump’s policies?

Trump has promoted tough immigration policies and restrictions on reproductive rights.

During his presidency, Trump enacted several anti-immigration laws, including a travel ban on several prominently Muslim countries and the “Remain in Mexico” policy. The “Remain in Mexico” policy required migrants seeking asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border to remain in Mexico until their immigration hearings took place.

Meanwhile, voters this year are concerned with the question of whether a federal abortion ban will be enacted during the president’s next term.

In the Time In an April magazine interview, Trump was asked, “Will you veto a bill that imposes federal restrictions on abortion?”

“You don’t need a federal ban,” the former president said, adding that “states would negotiate agreements.” However, he did not commit to vetoing a federal abortion ban bill if it were to reach his desk.

Biden’s team claimed in a post on Trump’s social media platform Truth Social in February, however, the former president said, “I strongly support the availability of IVF for couples trying to have a precious baby.”
