Stanton, KY, corrections officer charged after internal investigation

According to the Powell County Detention Center, Christine Spencer was charged with second-degree sexual abuse on Sunday following an internal investigation.

STANTON, Ky. (FOX 56) A correctional officer was charged and transported from the Powell County Detention Center Sunday following an internal investigation.

According to the Powell County Detention Center (PCDC), the facility received information “indicating a possible inappropriate relationship between a PCDC correctional officer and an inmate” and began an investigation into the matter.

The PCDC posted on Facebook that the Stanton Police Department and the 39th Judicial Circuit Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.

Authorities said the internal investigation yielded “sufficient evidence” and Christine Spencer was charged with second-degree sexual abuse.

The PCDC said in a Facebook post that prison warden Teddy Lacy made the following statement regarding the investigation:

“I want it to be known that the public does not have to worry about putting their trust in this institution. Our institution takes our responsibilities to the law, the State of Kentucky and the citizens of Powell County very seriously, both inside and outside our walls. If any of my deputies do anything like this, I will personally handcuff them and transport them to another facility.”

PCDC Jailer Teddy Lacy took Spencer into custody and transported her to the Clark County Detention Center where she was housed, according to authorities.
