Reginald Fils found dead in Newport Beach, Brandon Chanman arrested

Newport Beach police arrested a Chino Hills man on suspicion of murder Monday after officers conducted a welfare check at a Park Newport residence on Friday and discovered a deceased adult man with signs of injury on the property.

Officers were called to a home in the 1200 block of Park Newport at 6:38 p.m. Friday, where they discovered the deceased and began an investigation, Newport Beach police said. in a press release Published Monday.

Investigators became aware of Brandon Christian Chanman, 35, whom they contacted and subsequently arrested. Chanman is believed to have been an acquaintance of the victim, who was identified Monday by the Orange County coroner’s office as Reginald Hidalgo Fils, 48, of Newport Beach, according to sheriff’s spokesman Sergeant Matthew Parrish.

No other suspects are being sought as part of the investigation and police report there is no ongoing threat to the community.
