Police clear the UPenn camp in an early morning operation

Dozens and dozens of Philadelphia police officers dressed in riot gear arrived at the protest camp at the University of Pennsylvania before 6 a.m. Friday.

Shortly after ordering pro-Palestinian protesters to leave the country, they began making arrests. After their arrest, some students were seen sitting on the sidewalk with their hands tied behind their backs, while others were quickly loaded into police cars. Some chanted “Liberate Palestine” as they were led away by police.

The police operation sparked its own protests, with some people forming a line to prevent police vehicles from leaving the area.

Penn graduate Zoe Sturges led chants outside the camp site Friday morning as garbage trucks drove through campus and workers picked up the tents and other items left behind. “It’s disgusting,” Sturges told Billy Penn on Friday morning. “I want to see police officers in full riot gear with batons on a college campus. It’s a grim sight.”
