FIRST WARNING PREDICTION: Welcome to the weekend.

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – Welcome to the weekend. The cold front that moved through yesterday brought some welcome relief in terms of humidity and below average temperatures.

Headlines:

– A dry first half of the weekend

– The probability of thunderstorms increases on Sunday

– A warm start to August

DISCUSSION:

This weekend will be a mixed bag of treats across Eastern Kentucky. It will remain partly cloudy through the evening hours. Definitely a nice evening to get out and enjoy the outdoors, whether you’re heading to the North Fork Music Festival in downtown Hazard or doing other outdoor activities.

Saturday will remain mostly sunny with temperatures between 30 and 35 degrees. A slight chance of rain is not excluded overnight and in the early hours of the morning. Notice how temperatures are rising above normal again. In the first half of next week they will fall again.

Sunday is the next chance for rain showers and thunderstorms. As in the last few days, you either see it or you don’t. If you do, you’re in for a lot of rain.

LOOKING AHEAD:

As we wind down the final days of July, we’re seeing thunderstorm chances increase across the region starting Monday and continuing through the work week. As the week progresses, you’ll notice a few things: Temperatures will start to rise again, with highs near 90 degrees expected on Thursday. In short, not only will the heat return, but the humidity will return as well.
