Rowan County couple arrested after toddler suffers cardiac arrest and is treated with Narcan

ROWAN COUNTY – A Rowan County couple was arrested after police said their infant went into cardiac arrest and Narcan had to be used to resuscitate the child.

Authorities received a 911 call from Sides Road near East Main Street shortly before 3 p.m. on July 20, reporting that an 11-month-old baby was unconscious and not breathing.

Upon arrival, officials say they quickly encountered the infant’s mother, identified as Jamie Robertson.

Officers immediately performed CPR until EMS and firefighters arrived on scene to continue life-saving efforts. The infant was administered Narcan and immediately transported to a children’s hospital for treatment.

According to a press release, Robertson told investigators she repaired the baby’s bottle using a water bottle she took from her father’s car.

Robertson also told investigators that she fell asleep with her daughter and another suspect named James Danielson before waking up to find her daughter gasping and having difficulty breathing.

Robertson says she called 911 immediately afterward.

According to the officers, a search of the mobile home revealed extremely unhygienic conditions and various drug paraphernalia, drug residue and open syringes were found.

Both Robertson and Danielson later admitted to investigators that they had both injected fentanyl in the infant’s bed before he fell asleep.

Danielson and Robertson were both charged with child abuse, aggravated assault, and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were both lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center and held on $100,000.00 bail.

DSS has been contacted and is still investigating the case along with investigators from the Sheriff’s Office. The toddler has been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
