LA County Superior Court experiences ransomware cyberattack – NBC Los Angeles

The Superior Court of Los Angeles County announced that the court’s internal systems fell victim to a ransomware attack on Friday morning.

The court has shut down its network systems in its defense. The shutdown will continue through the weekend while the problem is fixed.

A statement from the Supreme Court released Friday evening said: “Several agencies, including the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, are currently investigating the breach and attempting to minimize any damages.”

According to the court, the cyberattack was quickly detected due to years of improvements in the cybersecurity infrastructure.

The attack is believed to be unrelated to Thursday’s Crowdstrike outage that affected airlines, hospitals and other companies.

Microsoft confirmed Thursday evening that users were unable to access various Microsoft 365 apps and services. The outage was due to a software update from a cybersecurity company on Microsoft Windows computers.

According to the court, the preliminary investigations do not provide any indication that court users’ data has been compromised.
