‘Water incident’ under investigation at local lake | News

Choctaw Lighthorse Police, with the assistance of state and local authorities, are investigating a “water incident” that occurred Wednesday afternoon on Lake Talawanda No. 2.

Randy Sachs, a spokesman for the Choctaw Nation, said Lighthorse was investigating the incident due to the area being owned by the tribe.

Lake Talawanda No. 1 and No. 2 are owned by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, with a court case from the 1980s granting the city of McAlester an easement for water rights from the lake.

Sachs said he was gathering more information and will give more information when available.

Lighthorse is being assisted by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The Pittsburg County Swift Water Rescue Team, made up of several local fire departments and Pittsburg County Emergency Management, were also seen at the lake Wednesday evening.

Audio obtained by the News-Capital through Broadcastify states two people were involved in the incident.

Sachs said he was gathering more information and will give more information when available.
