Man killed crossing Interstate 24 while trying to help people in another accident

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The man hit and killed on Interstate 24 in Clarksville Wednesday night was trying to cross the highway to help people who were in a separate wreck.

According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol obtained by Clarksville Now news partner Dash 10, 66-year-old Rex Wein of Minnesota was driving east on I-24 southbound at 9:44 p.m. when he crashed south media witnessed at the Kentucky state line.

Wein pulled over and parked on the right. He and his wife ran across the two eastbound lanes to check on the occupants of the crash. His wife made it safely to the left shoulder, but Wein was struck in the left lane by a 2009 Honda Ridgeline. According to THP, Wein was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda stopped immediately after the accident. There are no charges pending.
