Dartmouth College student Won Jang found dead in river

The Dartmouth College community mourns a tragic loss.

Hours after the missing person report Won-Jang— a student at the Ivy League university — was found dead in the Connecticut River near the campus in Hanover, NH, police confirmed to NBC Boston on July 8. He was 20 years old.

Jang was first reported missing on the afternoon of July 7, less than 24 hours after he was reportedly last seen at an informal gathering with friends on the docks near the Dartmouth boathouse. According to authorities, items found on the dock showed he never left the area, where his body was found later that same day about 20 yards offshore.

After the discovery, Hanover police also received “an anonymous email” saying it “may have been about harassment,” according to NBC Boston.

“There are indications of alcohol,” said Police Chief Hannover Charles Dennis told the outlet in an interview published on July 8. “Certainly from witnesses and conversations about things like that, so again, that’s all part of our investigation.”
