Ogunbowale scores 19 points, Sheldon adds 17 including 5 3-pointers to help Wings beat Dream 85-82

(AP) — Arike Ogunbowale scored 19 points, Jacy Sheldon made five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points — both career highs — and the Dallas Wings beat the Atlanta Dream 85-82 on Friday night.

The Wings (5-16) snapped a three-game losing streak and won for just the second time in their last 16 games.

The Dream (7-12) shot 56 percent (34 of 61) from the field but committed a season-high 28 turnovers — including 16 steals by Dallas — that the Wings converted into 38 points.

Ogunbowale converted a three-point play and Teaira McCowan made two free throws before a turnover — Atlanta’s 23rd of the game, the most this season — led to a McCowan basket inside that gave the Wings a 74-71 lead with 3:10 left. Cheyenne Parker-Tyus answered with a basket in the lane before Odyssey Sims made a late three-pointer to give the Wings a 77-73 lead with 2 minutes left.

Allisha Gray was fouled while making a three-pointer at the other end but missed the free throw and Sims stole a layup that made it 79-76 a minute later. Natasha Howard followed with a three-pointer and after Parker-Tyus made a short shot that cut the deficit to three points with 28.1 seconds left, Ogunbowale made 4 of 6 free throws down the stretch to seal the score.

McCowan scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Dallas, Sims added 14 points and seven assists and Natasha Howard had 10.

Gray led the Dream with 19 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Haley Jones added a season-best 16 points, Tina Charles chipped in 12 and Maya Caldwell finished with a season-best 11 points. Charles passed Tamika Catchings (7,380) to move into third place on the WNBA scoring list with 7,383 points.

The Wings, who trailed 61-60 entering the fourth quarter, entered the game 0-13 this season when trailing after three quarters.
