Man shot in DC while attempting to steal a car, police say

A man was shot and injured Friday morning after he apparently tried to hijack a deputy U.S. marshal’s car in northwest Washington, D.C., police said.

Officers were parked in various vehicles in the area of ​​the 2100 block of 11th Street NW around 1:15 a.m. when a man got out of a car, walked toward one of the officers and pointed a gun at him, apparently trying to steal his car, a news release said.

The officer drew his weapon and fired several shots at the man, police said. Another officer, apparently from the other vehicle, did the same.

They said the man suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken to a hospital. It is unclear how many times he was hit. A weapon was found at the scene, police said.

According to police, 18-year-old Kentrell Flowers of Southeast Washington was arrested and charged with armed carjacking, illegal carrying of a pistol and possession of a large caliber ammunition feeding device.

The police did not provide any information about what the stewards were doing on site.
