Police increase patrols at all Newport News schools after email threat

Several schools in Newport News and Gloucester County received a threatening email Thursday, according to a message NNPS sent to staff and parents.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – A threatening email put Newport News and Gloucester County public schools on alert Thursday morning.

Newport News Public Schools (NNPS) sent a message to staff and parents that several schools in the city and Gloucester County had received a threatening email and that law enforcement in both jurisdictions had opened investigations.

NNPS said police and district security would be conducting increased patrols at all city schools “out of an abundance of caution.”

The message from NNPS also said, “The email may be an attempt to disrupt the school day.”

The message did not describe what exactly was threatening in the email or whether there were any suspects.
