Lincoln Project convicted over Steve Bannon’s prison rape video

The anti-Trump Lincoln Project PAC faced backlash on Tuesday after brilliantly suggesting that the former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon would be raped in prison.

In a video titled “The Price of Being Trump’s Bitch? You Become a Prisoner’s Bitch,” released a day after Bannon arrived at the prison, a voice from the Lincoln Project can be heard saying, “Hey Steve, a wise man once said, ‘Kick somebody’s ass on day one or become somebody’s bitch.’ Of course, there can be problems on both fronts.”

As the video showed stock footage of a man washing himself with soap in the shower, the voice continued, “First of all, you look about as intimidating as a butterfly fart, so if you’re going to kick someone’s ass, you’re probably going to be someone’s bitch anyway.”

The video mocked Bannon’s appearance and suggested he should join a gang of prison skinheads before ending with the disclaimer: “Paid for by the Lincoln

Project.”

The Lincoln Project quickly received strong reactions on social media because of the video. Critics accused the anti-Trump organization of trivializing rape.

“As someone who survived rape, it is unspeakably disgusting to see it used as a political weapon,” the conservative journalist reacted Chad Felix Greene“Nobody deserves to be raped. It is not something you should use to mock your political opponents.”

Robby SoaveCo-host of The Hill’s Increasing and senior editor at Reason, called the video “absolutely disgusting” and “repulsive,” while Reason’s Associate Editor Billy Binion tweeted: “This is absolutely disgusting. If party politics have taken you to the point of supporting prison rape then there is something seriously broken in your soul.”

“Rejoicing at the prospect of being raped in prison is terrible,” said The Atlantic Conor Friedersdorfwhile National review senior author Daniel McLaughlin tweeted: “Advocating prison rape as punishment for contempt of Congress is entirely consistent with the Lincoln Project.”

The Lincoln Project was launched in 2019 by a group of Republicans opposed to the former president Donald Trumpand the PAC supported President Joe Biden during the 2020 election.

The organization was criticized in 2021 after one of its co-founders, John Weberwas accused of sexual misconduct by 21 men, including one man who claimed Weaver first sent him inappropriate messages,

at the age of 14.

According to reports, several Lincoln Project leaders were informed nearly a year before the allegations against Weaver were made public.
