Arrest after shooting at gas station at weekend leaves three injured

HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – One person has been arrested in connection with a shooting at an Evansville gas station Sunday morning that left three people injured.

Luther K Lawton Jr., 32, was arrested Sunday afternoon following the execution of several search warrants.

Shortly before 4 a.m., Evansville Police Department officers were dispatched to the On the Fly gas station on the corner of Covert Avenue and South Green River Road because shots had been fired.

Arriving officers found two people shot and a third person was taken to the local hospital a short time later for treatment of a gunshot wound.

According to EPD, one juvenile suffered serious injuries in the shooting and was later taken to a hospital outside Evansville. The other two were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

According to EPD, the suspects were quickly identified by interviewing witnesses and taking video footage from the area.

Lawton is charged with possession of a weapon by a serious violent felon, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, and assault with a deadly weapon. Lawton is currently being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail.

According to the EPD, further arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
