Elderly woman killed, six injured in attack over land dispute | Lucknow News

An elderly woman was killed and six people were injured in a mob attack related to a land dispute in the Saraimir police station area, police said on Sunday.

Following the incident on Saturday evening, an FIR was filed against 13 persons, including four women, on the complaint of the deceased’s son, Virendra Kumar Gautam, a resident of Katghar Jalal village.

According to police, Gautam stated in his complaint that on Saturday night, a group of people attacked his house with sticks and iron rods due to an ongoing land dispute.

Gautam, his mother Kewalpati Devi (60), his brother Parasnath, his niece Vishakha, Shashi Dewal and two others were seriously injured, the complaint said.

Based on the complaint, an FIR was filed against 13 persons from Katghar Jalal village under sections 323 (intentional causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 308 (attempt to kill not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Chirag Jain told reporters on Sunday that police reached the spot immediately after receiving the information and the injured were admitted to a hospital.

Jain said Kewalpati Devi died in hospital on Sunday.

The body has been sent for autopsy, he said, adding that a manhunt for the accused is underway.
