Modesto man arrested for attempting to sell illegal fireworks

A Modesto man was arrested Wednesday after attempting to sell illegal fireworks through social media and arranging a sale with investigators, police said. Officials said 34-year-old Mark Tobar was selling illegal fireworks through various social media outlets. He agreed to sell some to investigators. Instead, Tobar was taken into custody. Police said a search warrant recovered 580 pounds of illegal fireworks, including mortars and M80s. The fireworks were turned over to the Stanislaus County Bomb Disposal Squad for processing and destruction, officials said. Tobar was arrested for possession and sale of illegal fireworks. With the Fourth of July coming up in a week, Modesto police are reminding residents that possession or use of illegal fireworks can result in heavy fines or criminal prosecution. A Modesto man was arrested Wednesday after attempting to sell illegal fireworks through social media and arranging a sale with investigators, police said.

Officials said 34-year-old Mark Tobar was selling illegal fireworks through various social media platforms. He agreed to sell some of them to investigators.

Instead, Tobar was taken into custody. Police said a search warrant yielded 268 kilograms of illegal fireworks, including grenade launchers and M80s.

The fireworks were turned over to the Stanislaus County Bomb Disposal Squad for disposal and destruction, officials said.

Tobar was arrested for possession and sale of illegal fireworks.

Independence Day, July 4th, is one week away, and Modesto Police are reminding residents that possession or use of illegal fireworks can result in heavy fines or criminal prosecution.
