An Athens prosecutor on Thursday ordered a preliminary investigation into the causes of a mass food poisoning in a children’s camp in Attica.

More than 100 children aged between 6 and 12 reportedly showed symptoms of food poisoning at a camp in the Grammatiko region of Attica on Monday morning.

According to the mother of a child who has been in hospital since Monday, the children ate pork skewers and sausages on Sunday evening. The next morning, more than 100 children woke up with symptoms of stomach flu.

The crimes investigated by the public prosecutor’s office include negligent bodily harm and negligent poisoning of food intended for public consumption.
