Cedar Rapids man charged after attempted sexual assault, bar fight and shooting

(Cedar Rapids, IA) – A Cedar Rapids man is facing charges after he fired a handgun into the air outside a bar in the 200 block of 2nd Street SE, according to police. According to police, Johnny Gonzalez, 28, got into an argument with other people at the bar who claimed he tried to sexually assault someone there early Sunday morning. He was taken to the Linn County Jail.

Gonzalez was arrested at the Linn County Jail on the following charges:

• Carrying a firearm while drunk
• Assault with a dangerous weapon – (two counts)
• Reckless use of a firearm
• Bodily harm with the intent to commit sexual abuse
• Interference with official acts
• Drunkenness in public
