Violent arrest of black Georgia woman triggers investigation

A video has resurfaced from a violent arrest of a black woman and a police officer from Manchester, Georgia. After the investigation into the incident, it appears to be just the latest harassment involving this officer.

In a clip of the June 10 incident obtained by WSB-TV 2 AtlantaZykerria Bowles was seen sitting on a curb while Manchester Officer Donavan Scott-Sinclair arrested another woman. The officer then walked towards her as she screamed at him and grabbed her by the front of her shirtThe two wrestled for a moment before Scott-Sinclair threw her to the ground.

“Get off me!” she screamed as she was being pushed around on the floor. “Okay! Okay! Okay!” she then screamed. seemingly surrendering.

Bowles continued to try to free himself from the officer’s grip until he finally stunned her with a taser, as can be seen in the video.

“Seriously?” said Bowles, shocked.

In the video, the officer ordered her to turn onto her stomach and her hands were handcuffed behind her back. Shortly before the events in the video, Bowles was stopped for not wearing a seatbelt when they noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. according to a statement from the department. Officers then discovered a container of marijuana under Bowles’ seat.

The department said in a news release that the use of force was justified because Bowles allegedly struck Scott-Sinclair while she was resisting arrest. After an internal investigation, authorities concluded the officer did not act inappropriately in using physical force.

“I was scared for my life out there,” she said at a news conference. “(I felt) violated … abused.”

The local NAACP chapter called on the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to investigate the incident and fire the officer, but the firing hasn’t stopped him so far…

Channel 2 Action News obtained Officer Donavon Scott-Sinclair’s POST report, which showed he was fired from the Fort Valley Police Department in 2018.

The records also showed that he had been incarcerated by various law enforcement agencies and was placed on probation in 2019. POST did not explain why.

In 2020, Scott-Sinclair got into an altercation while working security at a bar and subsequently shot a man, according to investigators. Murder charges were brought against Scott-Sinclair, but were later dropped.

According to the report, Bowles is accused of obstruction of justice, assault on a public officer and disorderly conduct.

It is unclear whether Scott-Sinclair will face disciplinary action in light of the city’s upcoming internal investigation. He is currently still on active duty.
