Hunter Biden’s law license suspended after guilty verdict on gun charges: report

Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, is barred from practicing law in Washington, D.C., after a jury found him guilty last week of a serious weapons offense, according to a new letter from the Washington disciplinary attorney.

Last week, a jury in Wilmington, Delaware, found the First Son guilty on three counts of lying on a federal firearms license, an “aggravated crime” under the District of Columbia Bar’s licensing rules. The appeals court’s disciplinary counsel sent a letter to Hunter Biden’s attorney on Monday evening informing him that his license would be revoked, according to the WashingtonPost.

Hunter Biden was “immediately suspended from the practice of law in the District of Columbia” pending further investigation into the case, the letter to defense attorney Abbe Lowell said. The disciplinary board said it concluded that the crime was dishonesty or immorality within the meaning of the District’s bar admission rules.

The Washington Examiner has asked the disciplinary counsel and Lowell for comment.

Hunter Biden, 54, has been admitted to the Washington, D.C., bar under his full name, Robert H. Biden, since 2007. A search on DCbar.com shows his status as “active” and “in good standing,” despite the notice allegedly served on his defense attorney Monday evening.

The trial focused intense attention on the younger Biden’s past drug use, which the jury found he tried to conceal on a federal gun purchase form. Biden falsely stated that he was not using or addicted to illegal drugs at the time, and illegally possessed a Colt Cobra pistol for 11 days in 2018 while addicted to crack cocaine, the jury found.

The most serious gun offenses carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, but the first son may receive a lighter sentence due to his status as a first-time offender. The three charges combined carry a maximum sentence of 25 years behind bars.

Lowell reportedly received the letter on Monday just hours after Hunter Biden’s attorney briefly filed a motion for a retrial in Delaware federal court and then abruptly withdrew the motion without explanation.

The eldest son is expected to appeal the jury’s verdict, which will then be reviewed by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
