Houston doctor accused of unauthorized access to personal information of pediatric patients at Texas Children’s Hospital

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A Houston doctor could spend up to a decade behind bars if convicted of obtaining children’s medical records without authorization.

Ethan Haim, 34, of Dallas, allegedly obtained Texas Children’s Hospital patients’ personal information, including their names, treatment codes and treating physicians, from TCH’s electronic system.

Haim is accused of obtaining this information under false pretenses and intending to cause malicious damage to TCH.

According to the four-count indictment, Haim was a resident at Baylor College of Medicine and had previously completed rotations at TCH as part of his residency.

In April 2023, authorities said he requested to reactivate his TCH login access to access pediatric patients he was not caring for and later disclosed this information to a media contact.

Haim faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.

ABC13 is contacting Texas Children’s and working to get more information about the indictment. Watch Eyewitness News throughout the evening for more updates.
