Two toddlers dead after drowning accident in Metairie

METAIRIE, Louisiana (WGNO) – Officials with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office are investigating the drowning of two toddlers in Metairie on Sunday, June 16.

The JPSO reported that deputies responded to a report that small children had entered the community swimming pool of an apartment complex in the 4900 block of Zenith Street around 10 a.m.

At the scene, JPSO officers said they found two unconscious young children outside the pool near the security gate.

They were taken to a hospital after cardiopulmonary resuscitation, where they later died.

According to JPSO, an initial investigation indicates that “the victims were playing with siblings outside of their housing unit before entering the fenced common pool area.”

The investigation is ongoing.
