Polish woman raped in Himachal by man who offered her accommodation for rent: Police

A man was arrested on Friday for the alleged rape of a Polish woman in nearby McLeodganj in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, police said.

The day before, the woman had filed a complaint with the police, claiming that she had been raped.

Kangra’s deputy superintendent of police Hitesh Lakhanpal told the media that the accused was arrested after a case was registered against him under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code. The medical examination of the woman confirmed rape, he said.

Her statement before the magistrate was recorded by the police.

The woman, who had enrolled in a meditation course, had been staying in McLeodganj for the past three weeks. She contacted the accused, who offered her a rental apartment.
