11 dogs and 3 cats seized in Ansonia animal cruelty investigation: Police – NBC Connecticut

Ansonia police have arrested two men accused of animal cruelty and seized more than a dozen animals, and said two of the dogs they found during an investigation at a home were so sick they had to be euthanized.

The police discovered the animals during an independent investigation.

During a search of a home on Condon Drive, police said they found several emaciated dogs in urgent need of medical attention and confiscated eleven dogs and three cats.

They also found a dead dog and said an autopsy would be performed to determine what caused the dog to die.

Several of the surviving dogs were taken to a veterinary hospital and a veterinarian decided that two had to be euthanized.

Police said several other dogs were still being treated.

A 30-year-old man who lives at the residence has been charged with eight counts of cruelty to animals, seven counts of failure to comply with dog ownership regulations and seven counts of failure to comply with rabies control regulations.

He posted $10,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on June 20.

A 26-year-old man who also lives in the home has been charged with animal cruelty, failure to comply with dog ownership regulations and failure to comply with rabies control regulations.

He posted $1,000 bail and is due to appear in Derby Superior Court on June 14, 2024.

Police said the investigation is still ongoing.
