It’s time for less talk and more action

The Buffalo Sabers are heading into the offseason after missing the playoffs for the 13th straight year. After the best season in a long time in 2022/2023, it was a down year for the Sabers in 2023/2024. What will it take for the playoff drought to end?

As frustration boils over within the fan base, general manager Kevyn Adams knows this offseason will make or break his tenure as general manager. After firing Don Granato, Adams brought back Lindy Ruff to become Buffalo’s head coach.

In two press conferences this offseason, Ruff and Adams preached that the time for change was now. There is no doubt that the Sabers need to improve this offseason. Whether it’s with the draft or free agency, changes need to happen.

Many fans, including myself, thought this season was going to be the one where they ended the drought. In 1968, the great Elvis Presley recorded and released a song called “A Little Less Conversation.” The main tagline of the song is “A little less talk, a little more action”. These words couldn’t be more relevant than right now.

The time for discussions is over, time for action. We’ve heard the phrases “ready to take the next step” and “the work starts now.” Over the past 13 years, fans have been subjected to these conversations. Although the previous management tried, they failed.

If there’s ever an offseason for the Sabers to give it their all, this is it. The vibe is that Adams knows this might be his last chance to make a difference. For example, Kevyn gave us some insight into what he wants to do in the offseason. Let’s hope he does well, whether it’s trading the first-round pick for a proven NHL player or making a splash in free agency.

The time to act is now.
