Cleveland City Hall closed after ‘cyber incident’

Cleveland City Hall will remain closed Monday following an unspecified “cyber incident,” the mayor’s office said in a press release Sunday evening.

The press release did not provide any further details on the cause or nature of the incident. The city’s IT staff shut down the affected computer systems before attempting to restore them.

“These systems will remain offline until we better understand the situation,” the statement said. “We take cyber threats extremely seriously and are working diligently to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.”

The city is also closing its branches in the Erieview complex on East Ninth Street, which house the health department and some building and housing department employees.

According to a City Hall press release, emergency services, airports and public utilities will continue to operate. After business hours, United Way operators will answer the city’s 3-1-1 calls during the day.

“All internal systems and software platforms will be shut down until further notice,” the release said. “City Hall and Erieview will be closed on Monday, June 10, except for essential personnel, and normal business transactions will not be conducted with the public.”

Mayor Justin Bibb’s office told employees Sunday evening that they would continue to have access to their cloud-based Office 365 systems.
