Woman attacked by moose for third time in Estes Park – ‘unprecedented’ attack

A woman was attacked, trampled and kicked by a female elk in Estes Park early Friday morning. It was the third elk attack in eight days, which Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials called unprecedented behavior.

The woman was walking her dog on a leash near the intersection of South St. Vrain and Stanley Avenue when she startled an elk from about 60 feet away, state officials said in a news release Friday.

The woman tried to escape behind a tree to safety, but was thrown to the ground by the elk and trampled and kicked several times.

The woman is “seeking medical treatment,” CPW officials said Friday. A calf was later seen nearby.
